Shel: Today's review is what I like to call the "hot, fast, and cheap" version of a review....it's my lame attempt to not be so dang wordy--we'll see if it works. Court: Haha

Shel: So, I got hooked into this series because of Ellie and Javier and then Javier and Luisa's unconventional (understatement of the year) romance had me very curious about what the rest of this series would be about. Court: Right, and as of this publication, we've already reviewed the others, and even read this one first, but I somewhat feel like it is outside of the wildness of the other two so I feel completely okay with reviewing it this way. And I might've ran out of time. I'll leave you to speculate on that.

Shel: In Dirty Deeds I'd say it's about Derek's second chance at life, love, and a peaceful existence and for Alana she has a chance at feeling loved, protected, and secure. Will lies, bad guys, and one poor decision undo the foundation of love that this assassin and flight attendant were beginning to build? You're going to have to read to find out. Court: What she said times a million, but also that if you think this love story is easy and wrapped up with a bow you don't know Karina Halle very well. And, I think we do. Her writing anyways, and I liked what we had seen of Derek before, and these poor Bernal sisters probably *should* be at the top of the list to torture their brother for everything he has put them through in the name of family and Mexico and drugs.

Shel: In this second book in the series, not only do you get Derek and Alana's story, you also will see the return of some of the characters from Dirty Angels. Court: Right...except like I said I thought it was somewhat of an outlier, because those events don't affect these events if you will. Though, you should read them all, or at least this one before reading Dirty Promises.

Shel: This book was entertaining and sexy and action packed; it was character and plot driven. For those used to Halle's Where Sea Meets Sky, I'd that in this series you'll find it gritter, faster and not as emotional and slow building. It's stylistically different and yet totally fitting for what I think the characters and setting need. Court: It is, but I did struggle some in the 20-30% range, because the slow burn we were experiencing was almost pond still, which was a testament to how balls to the wall the beginning was I think, and the other parts of this series so I think that is what surprised me. But it picks back up, and packs huge punches which is what I came for!

Keep your eyes out because book 3 of this series is out now!

Book number 2 in the Dirty Angels series did not disappoint. While I found book 1 to be dark and gritty, book 2 was like a high speed car chase in a movie.
Derek/Derrin is an assassin hired to do a job in Mexico. No questions asked. Get in, do your job, collect your money and move on.
Alana is the sister of a well known cartel leader, but she has been living her somewhat normal life away from all that and flying the friendly skies of AeroMexico.
When circumstances bring these 2 together, things become dicey. Actions become questionable, but the hot mercenary keeps things moving through it all.
While this is book 2 in the series, you don't necessarily need to have read book one to understand these characters. I definitely think it is helpful to relate to Alana and her brother, Javier, but he has such a minor role in this book that he is kind of an afterthought.
I honestly loved the 2 characters and how quickly things developed between them. It actually didn't seem quick at all, but more questionable. YOu aren't sure if it's because of everything happening around them or if they are just looking for the next thrill to keep them occupied. But Alana and Derek sure kept us on our toes throughout the book. And all the action kept my heart beating like crazy and I kept having to read more and more. With Javier's men and his crew becoming involved in the storyline, it made me super excited to read the final book, Dirty Promises. I know that things are going to get hairy, but I'm glad that I got a little background into more of Javier's life and Esteban's as well. But Alana was another Kick butt female character that I was rooting for from the beginning. She has fight and she has spirit, along with her sensuality...she is the full package!
"I'm fine. Just get me to a bar, get a beer in my belly, get some f*&king hot men with big d*cks, and I'm happy as can be."
A girl that knows what she wants and how to get it? Perfection in my book.
Another great story in the series and can't wait to see how the final book will bring everything together. Things are going to get crazy, aren't they Miss Halle?? )
