I wanted to like this book, I really did. The cover art is gorgeous and that's what drew me in. I was disappointed, however, that it took so long for anything to really happen in the story. It also took a long time before I started to connect to any of the characters because the book begins before they really exist as viewpoint characters. I think I would have preferred that the book start with them at an age where they can think and feel and leave everything before that to flashback or backstory. The ending also is not an ending. I realize this is a series. but I detest cliffhanger endings. It felt more like a chapter ending than a book.

Even in cliffhanger endings like the end of "Empire Strikes Back" you have resolution--Luke Skywalker has been saved, his wounds have been healed, and Princess Leia is safe. There's still the issue of saving Han Solo, but it's a break in the action with plans being made for the next. If I were to compare this book's ending, it would be ending right as Lando flew them away from the city. It's missing that final closure scene.

So for all the length to actually get anywhere, I'm not really enticed into buying the next book. It was an okay read with some interesting concepts, a very interesting world and a lot of politics and maneuvering, but it's just not for me.

A little slow but good story. Interesting take that i enjoyed. Will purchase the next book in the series when it comes out.
outstanding series. This book continues the this great plot and provides hours worth of entertainment
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, so much so that I found it very hard to put down. The story reads well and the characters are great ... I found I really empathised with some of them. I'm looking forward to reading the next in the trilogy - 'Exile'.

Product as described. Arrived on time. Great gift.
Besieged is a wonderful read and I couldn't put it down. The characters are full of life and breath. Detail to attention has been paid to even the smallest little thing and has pulled me into every page, every event, and I have become invested in the outcome of the heroes and heroines. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a refreshing new read full of amazing new places to escape to. I look forward to continuing the saga of the T'En and what the future might hold for them.
All I can say is I love the Outcast Chronicles, this has to be my most favorite trilogy series so far. It's fast paced, gripping, makes you think hard about gender, social and racial issues both in this world and ours. The magic system in this world is so cool - both dangerous and vulnerable. The T'En (the magical race) are magnificent - its the most complex and plausible system I've read so far and I love how it adds so much to the plot complexity and charterer development - the T'En's magic is intrinsic to who they are individually and as a culture. And they're so incredibly sexy!!!

If you want to read a trilogy you won't put down to the end and then feel like you've just walked through another world and lost touch with this one, then this is for you -)
It is really hard to admit that I liked this book, much less gave it four stars. Purely based on the shocking amount of racism and sexism contained between the covers (or in my case, within the file) should make me ashamed of myself. But I have to say, I couldn't put it down.

As I think about it more, I realize that what Rowena Cory Daniells has managed to do is something not many authors can claim. She has created a whole new species, the T'En, and has managed not to make them act human. That's been sort of a central problem in SF/F. Whether it be drawves, elves, the Fae, etc, authors have a really hard time separating them from being not only physically like human beings, but emotionally like them as well. And let's face it if those species exist, they might share some traits with humans, but I would tend to doubt the separate cultures would allow for humanlike decision-making.

Enter the T'En, a larger, more beautiful humanoid type species. It would be easy to think of them as people, that is, until you read the story from a T'En point of view. Then it becomes all too clear that this society is enormously different from human society. Imagine if male Nazis and female Nazis hated one another and then developed magical powers. It's like that.

But if the T'En are bad, the humans in Daniells's world are even worse. What's the saying? As long as there has been the idea of a God, there have been people killing in his name? Well these humans have seven Gods, and are willing to kill in the name of at least six of them.

It was really hard to find a character worth rooting for, but my mind kept turning back to Sorne, the anti-hero, born a Malanjue, a mix between human and T'En, looked down upon by both societies and struggling to fit. There were times in the book I loved him and times I hated him, but I have to think that the world Daniells has created is not sustainable as it is currently. If all races are going to continue to exist, there has to be someone to bring them together, and I think Sorne is it, if he's not killed first.

If he is, well then, it's kind of like what would've happened if Britain and the United States had somehow been taken out of World War II and being stuck between the Nazis and the Soviets. Not a comforting thought.
I wanted to like this book, I really did. The cover art is gorgeous and that's what drew me in. I was disappointed, however, that it took so long for anything to really happen in the story.
