I love Arend's Rocky Mountain series and have reread it several times, but this one isn't as good. The writing is still excellent and the story is interesting, but I just didn't care so much about the characters. There are steamy sex scenes, lots of emotional background and some dangerous, adrenaline pumping situations. To be honest, though, I found the secondary characters a lot better than the leads. I'm willing to keep reading for their stories.

High Risk Adrenaline Search Rescue Book 1 edition by Vivian Arend Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

I enjoy Ms. Arend' s work so I'm not surprised to say that I include this book in the group. Becky' s pain was heartfelt, and Marcus' s surprising revelation felt horrifyingly real.

I will continue to read Ms. Arend' s books and suggest them to others.
Talk about adrenaline rush, this gives you an idea of what goes on during a search and rescue. Great job Vivian!
Really enjoyed this book. It reminded how wonderful it is to be passionate about what you do-and how much you are willing to risk to do what you are passionate about. The love story was great, and the sex hot. Plus, loved the funny scenes with the team. The search and rescue angle really appealed-the team interaction really added an additional depth to the book. Now I want to go to Banff....
I usually love all of Vivian Arend's books and can't wait until they come out. I was so excited when this one came out that I started reading it immediately. About 1/3 of the way through, I thought to myself that this was not the least bit interesting. It seems to be "second verse, same as the first". Sorry, I wanted to like it but it was just plain boring.
This is a pretty good contemporary erotic romance. I must admit to being more engaged with the secondary characters than with the primary ones, who seemed a bit flat to me (he's perfect but wounded, she's fun-loving but wounded). The sex was hot with tiny overtones of BDSM, but there was a frustrating lack of plot, which I do find frequently in erotic romance.
This book is by an author I have never read before, but because the title and description seemed to fit the genre I prefer and it had over 300 pages (I rarely read anything with less than 300) I decided to try it. I always read romantic suspense/action. I am rating this book with only one star because the book was about 90% romance/sex scenes and only 10% action if that. The only action in the book happened at the very end. If I wanted to read simply for romance I would buy a Harlequin. I will not be reading the rest of the series for this reason.
The bones of this book were good.

The heroine, Rebecca James, who was part of search and rescue in the US lost her lover and partner in a climbing accident. The problem is she doesn't remember it. On leave until she can recall the fatal moments before the accident she decides to take a job as a teacher back at the SAR school in Canada where she graduated at the top of her class.

The hero, Marcus Landers, whose brother runs the SAR school and where Marcus has his own team of search and rescuers called Lifeline, lost his arm over in the sandbox and suffers from PTSD. He'd recruited the best of the best for his team, trained them hard and had high expectations from them.

That part of the bones of the book grabbed my attention. Would Becki be able to finally remember what happened? Would Marcus be able to work through his PTSD? Also the secondary characters that made up the Lifeline team were great. I can see the potential for their books in the future. The training that these guys were put through was grueling and fascinating to read.

Where it kept falling apart was the constant thinking of sex between Marcus and Rebecca. It overtook the book and there were times I just couldn't see where that would/should be on their mind given the situation they were in (climbing a wall - teaching - training). If it would have dealt more with the adrenaline (the name of the series) from the SAR aspect instead of the overwhelming amount of lust between the main characters I would really have enjoyed it more. The ending was a bit of a letdown too.
