I am a big fan of author Littlefield and I've read many of her different books. She is not an author that's going to get stuck in a niche, rolling out cookie cutter books. Her books are always different and fresh.

This book is a sequel to BANISHED. Both books had their strengths. The first book was all new and shiny and a paranormal treat. This book was more nuts and bolts but did have a romantic side I really enjoyed.

This book continues the stories of the characters from BANISHED, including Hailey and Prairie, both Healers, and Kaz and Chub, both Seers.

New characters are added (including some real slimeballs) and the danger levels are ramped up.

If you haven't read BANISHED, you really should before reading this sequel. Both are fun and even though actually aimed towards the Young Adult audience, adults will enjoy them just as much, if you like paranormal tales at all.

I've never read anything like this. As a mystery reader and writer, I felt it was time to do a little reading tour - see what's out there, you know? And boy, is there some cool stuff out there. Unforsaken was completely unexpected. Here's what's great about this book - Sophie Littlefield says so much with so few words. In the first couple of chapters, this creepy pederast Gojo is made apparent and detestable with such dexterity that you catch yourself filling in the blanks of his creepiness. Same thing happens later on. "Half a dozen XXXXX sat in folding chairs, only their eyes moving..." I don't want to say what they were, because that's part of the fun, but man, it's so creepy and so normal at the same time!

I enjoyed this book immensely. Give it a shot.

UNFORSAKEN is the follow-up to BANISHED and the final book in the Banished series. That's both good news and bad news. It's good because unlike in BANISHED, we aren't left with a cruel cliffhanger at the end of UNFORSAKEN. The bad news is that I would have gladly taken a cliffhanger if it meant I could look forward to another beautifully written, emotionally evocative, action and romance packed book in this series.

UNFORSAKEN picks up shortly after the BANISHED cliffhanger. While 80% of this story is told by Hailey, there are multiple POVs introduced in UNFORSAKEN. My favorite, hands down, was Hailey's four year old foster brother Chub. His chapters reminded me a lot of THE CURIOUS CASE OF THE DOG IN THE NIGHTIME by Mark Haddon. Chub is developmentally delayed and speaks only a few words, plus he is a Seer, so his internal thoughts were beyond fascinating. Sophie used his chapters beautifully to advance the story while providing insight into Chub's world.

I did miss some of the more quiet and pitiful moments of Hailey's life that were brought to life in such vivid and heartbreaking detail in BANISHED, but the tradeoff of learning more about her Healing ability and the other Banished was a fair compensation. Also the introduction of a romance that somehow wasn't forced into a story this harrowing was a welcome addition.

Overall, UNFORSAKEN concludes a powerful series involving Irish folklore and zombies, a sweet romance, and a multi generational storyline full of breathless action and truly abhorrent villains. Sophie Littlefield continues to astound me with her poignant writing, deft blending of supernatural details, and unflinching characterizations. I am officially a fan for life.

In this sequel to “Banished,” Hailey, Prairie and little Chub managed to escape Bryce and his gang and began new lives for themselves in Chicago with new identities. Hailey tried to fit in with the boy crazy girls in her area, but felt like part of herself was missing because of Kaz, the handsome son of Anna, Prairie’s friend. He had been left behind in their escape, but Hailey clung to the memory of their final moments together. Unable to resist their attraction for each other, they kept up their relationship with secret phone calls. Unfortunately, Prentiss, Bryce’s boss, found a way to trace their calls and, within a few short moments, Hailey’s life crumbled.

Both Prairie and Chub were kidnapped and taken to Trashtown, and Hailey barely managed to escape the trap. With no one to turn to, she and Kaz decided to figure out their next moves. They found an unlikely ally in Rattler, her crazy “will do anything for a pure bloodline of Banished” father. In love with Prairie for years, he had planned to have her raise a crop of pure bred Banished to carry on the work of Healers and Seers. Infuriated, Rattler planned to make sure no one messed with what belongs to him.

Kidnappings, murders, betrayals, zombie attacks, as well as thrilling action and adventures are stuffed into 277 pages. Littlefield leaves no stone unturned, even adding a few “aha!” moments to keep her readers guessing as to what would happen next to Hailey, Kaz, Chub, Prairie and Rattler.

Fans of “Banished,” and new fans in grades 9-12, will enjoy reading “Unforsaken.”
This was a book that I really enjoyed. I have recommended it to several people. The book has been one of the best I have read.
I have waited so long to read this book. Banished is the first book in the series and it's amazing! Love the author and plan on getting more books from her!
The first book Banished I bought on a whim and loved it...immediately ordered Unforaken....Totally different storyline than I usually read but it grabs ya and you don't see it coming.....Several happenings in the books take you by complete surprise and you are like WOW...where did that come from....good edge of your seat quick read...
Once again, a very compelling read. I read it in two days. Hailey's dilemma is interesting. I felt the antagonist could've been better fleshed out, but the romance and the well-developed plot compensated.
